National Maritime Museum Cornwall

0 out of 5

The National Maritime Museum has created a unique focal point for visitors to discover the long maritime heritage enjoyed by the Cornish population. The building is inspired by its subject matter from design based on the site’s past as a ship building yard, through to the use of sustainable ship building materials such as local slate and green oak boarding clad by master shipwrights. The building has been designed around a natural ventilation system which removes the need for air conditioning. In the winter the building’s thermal mass helps maintain a highly efficient under floor heating system. Visitors can climb to the top of the look-out tower for breathtaking views over the harbour, docks and estuary and sail model boats in an all-weather simulator pool. The museum’s waterfront location and its interactive displays put into context a long maritime past as well as a sustainable future for Cornwall’s sea heritage.
