Here at New Consumer, we believe in purchase power.
We've seen consumers make a real difference in the last few years - buying fairtrade, shopping organic, and demanding an end to plastic bag use. And we believe that future change lies with you, the consumer, too.
Founded in 2002 by Big Issue in Scotland co-founder and renowned social entrepreneur Mel Young, New Consumer started out as a magazine all about fairtrade. We’ve seen the fairtrade movement hit the mainstream, alongside the drive for more ethical, sustainable and ecological lifestyles. As Fairtrade Fortnight 2008 comes round, we’ve recognised the steps that the Fairtrade Movement has taken, and we’ve challenged big business to go even further, making fairly traded products a realistic purchase for 100% of shoppers out there. Read more in our February magazine, available now from Neal’s Yard, Ben & Jerry’s, Timberland and independent ethical retailers.
While we remain dedicated to Fairtrade, we’ve now widened our remit to cover all sorts of purchases – whether they’re green, produced with social aims in mind, or simply locally sourced. We aim to provide information for you, the consumer, to make the right choices in what you buy – and ultimately, make a real difference.
