Solar-powered barbecue beams down for summer
When the sun comes out, one of the first thoughts is ‘barbecue’. Sunshine and barbies go hand-in-hand - they do for the manufacturers of Solar-Grill, anyway.
For around £125 you can grill your food alfresco, by pointing the barbie at the sun, and leaving the reflecting mirrors to heat the hot plate.
Nick Rau, of Friends of the Earth commented: ‘The solar-powered barbecue is a promising sign because if you a person who likes the outdoors, then you should be even more aware of your carbon footprint.’
If the smell of the coals is what gets you going, I’m afraid because there’s no coals there’s no smoke, but it does mean you’ll probably get away with setting it up where the smoke from a disposable barbecue might annoy folks.
A spokesperson for manufacturer Tammock Trading has said that use of the barbecue may be a ‘small contribution’ to fighting global warming but nevertheless represents the increasing awareness of businesses regarding green issues.
And so long as the sun's out it's probably quicker than trying to fry an egg on a car roof.
