Fairtrade comes Tu Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s, already the biggest Fairtrade retailer in the UK, expands its activities still further by adding a range of Fairtrade clothing in store under its Tu clothing label. The mega-store raised spirits last year when it placed the biggest ever single order of Fairtrade certified cotton in the UK for its Sports Relief T-shirts. Tu’s range covers men’s, women’s and childrens casualwear - T-shirts, hoodies and jogging pants given added oomphf with floral prints, raw edges and washes - and gets updated every 12 weeks.

Whatever you think about supermarkets in general, Sainsbury’s isn’t doing Fairtrade by halves and that’s certain to have an effect, not simply on the lives of the West African farmers who supply the cotton but on the ever-increasing recognition of the value of fair trade. Men’s and women’s items cost between £10 and £15, kid’s between £5 and £11. The range launches into 66 stores this month.
