Dell aims to become green tech giant
Dell has launched its new Zero Carbon Initiative, which it hopes will make it the greenest technology company.
As part of its green ambitions Dell has (at last) extended the Plant a Tree for Me programme across Europe. This enables customers in the UK to offset the emissions that their computer uses for £1 per notebook or £3 per desktop.
Dell will continue to work with The Conservation Fund and Carbonfund.org to manage the European planting programme in Hungary.
Michael Dell, chairman and chief exec, announced yesterday that he would personally match donations to the programme received during the next three months. So if you’re planning to donate don’t put it off.
Other elements of the initiative to help Dell take green strides include maximising the energy efficiency of all Dell products and, over time, to offset their carbon impact. This will help with the company’s aim of reducing the carbon intensity of its global operations by 15 per cent by 2012.
Dell is asking customers for their ideas in building the ‘greenest PC on the planet’. If you’ve got a green technical noggin full of ideas, you can empty them out on the Dell’s IdeaStorm site.
