Green gadgets abound at Design Lab 2007

We could see lots of futuristic green gadgets come out of this year’s Design Lab competition.

Electrolux is inviting design students from schools around the world to present their ideas for eco-friendly and sustainable household products - for 2020.

Designing products for the future widens the scope for creativity as, ‘what’s impossible to manufacture today might be possible in 2020,’ says Henrik Otto of Electrolux’s Global Design.

The objects should go beyond efficient use of resources to encourage the users to adopt more sustainable behaviours, along the lines of the Energy Tree - the smart meter with a real tree.

Entries must be received by 1 August and the winner will be taken under Electrolux’s wing for six months at on of its Global Design Centres, and receive 5,000 Euros.

If you’re stuck for ideas you could try playing Rethink to get yourself powered up.
