Ethical Superstore pledges to help Myanmar with Fairtrade sales
Fairtrade can help disaster survivors once the worst has passed, says Ethical Superstore (picture: World Vision/ DEC) Online ethical retailer Ethical Superstore has pledged to donate a portion of its sales to cyclone victims in Myanmar this week.
For every £10 spent on a Fairtrade product between now and Sunday, 18th of May, the company will donate £1 to the Disasters Emergency Committee Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Appeal.
The campaign is also intended to raise awareness of how Fairtrade can help rebuild disaster-hit areas. “Once the camera crews and journalists have returned home, the battle to build a new future will go on for thousands of people in places devastated by disaster or war,” states Ethical Superstore.
“Rebuilding a livelihood destroyed by natural disaster is hard enough in Britain or the USA, but in poor countries the task is even harder.
Andy Redfern, co-founder of Ethical Superstore said: "We felt it was important to lead by example and by offering to donate £1 for every £10 spent on Fairtrade products from Ethical Superstore feel this is a good way of doing just that. Once the news coverage stops, disaster survivors have to rebuild their lives. Fairtrade organisations are there to help people create sustainable livelihoods and work their way out of poverty.”
