Extend your summer with Ecobookers’ guide to green rooms

We were saying earlier how it’s coat season, so if you’re planning on finding somewhere where you can still wear your flip-flops without your toes falling off you might be interested in checking out new site ecobookers.

Ecobookers carefully chose the accommodation to separate those who are green at heart from those just cashing in on the green pound. Each hotel, yurt or treehouse on the site has its own page, where you can checklist its eco-policies against your own standards and ideals, including active wildlife conservation and improving the lives of the local community - so you choose how you address the balance of what you get from your trip to what the area gains from you being there.

The eco-credentials of Brazil’s Juma Lodge, include its project with a local non-profit organisation, which involves providing financial support to restore the forest along the rivers bordering the Juma Lake where the lodge is located. Guests staying at the lodge, which is south of the remote region of Manaus, also have the opportunity to experience an overnight stay in the jungle, sleeping in hammocks.

The Nkwichi Lodge in Mozambique, is located on the east coast of Lake Niassa. Each of the seven unique eco-friendly chalets are cleverly tucked into the trees along the lakeshore providing unique views across the crystal clear water. The lodge tots up green points for its local approach, clean power sources and commitment to conservation.

If you’re going away for just a few days or a week or so, the temptations of Kenya and Brazil may be a bit too far away. You may prefer to stay in Andalucia’s Hoopoe Yurt Hotel. Temperatures at the eco-camp just about warrant flip-flops, but possibly not for very much longer . . .
