Chamomile lawn offers low water alternative

Turf suppliers to Windsor Castle, Tillers Turf have come up with an answer to the problem of water guzzling grass lawns with a new product – Chamomile turf.

Chamomile is a low growing aromatic herb and the perfect type for creating lawns and paths is the non-flowering compact formTreneague.

The beauty of chamomile is, according to Tillers, that it needs less water than traditional lawn grass. It also doesn’t need mowing as it only grows to a height of 6cms.

Normally you would plant plugs of chamomile and have to wait at least six months and be extremely conscientious with weeding until the lawn is established. With the turf rolls, you get instant effect – perfect for wafting around the garden in your bare feet (once it gets warm enough!) The minimum order is a square metre so even if space is tight you can have a fluffy bit of green for your toes – or a how about a seat cover?
