Offset your shopping on the virtual high street at smartlygreen.com
Smartlygreen.com is great for shoppers who want to reduce their carbon footprint, without actually changing their shopping habits.
It enables you to earn cash back and offset your carbon footprint, while shopping with the likes of John Lewis, Adili, Apple store and The Carphone Warehouse - at no extra cost.
The way it works is that half of the net commissions paid by the stores goes into your loyalty scheme account - 80 per cent of what you tot up will be donated to PURE, the Clean Planet Trust, and the remaining 20 per cent is yours to spend as cash back.
Of course if you use it as an excuse to shop more than you were before then you won’t be making a real carbon saving, but if you switch your high street spending to this virtual one then you can make a real difference.
If you do want to change your shopping habits then there is the option to shop responsibly via the portal, current featured items include these bamboo trousers and the oneless bag from Adili.
Smartlygreen.com has calculated that if 10 per cent of UK Christmas spending was directed to the virtual high street via the portal, 1.7 million tonnes would be offset collectively, which is enough to cover the average annual footprint of about 170,000 households or fill more than 1.7 billion party balloons.
