Quail’s Fairtrade ‘Open House’

Quail, a recently hatched ethical fashion label based in South Devon, is holding an ‘open house’ event for Fairtrade Fortnight at its studio.

Quail sources fairly traded fabrics, like organic hand loomed cotton and tweed, and organic Ahimsa or ‘peace’ silk, which allows the worms to emerge naturally before their cocoons are processed.

Quail supports young designers and wants to see traditional skills revitalised in this country, with that in mind a selection of discounted cotton will be available to buy by the metre, to inspire you to create you own designs. It includes limited edition prints produced exclusively for Quail from their fairtrade supplier in southern India.

Discounts will also apply to finished articles, and ethics also apply to the finishing touches, using natural materials such as shell and coconut, for things like buttons, like on the ‘Emily Dress’ (pictured, £49).

Quail will be adding to its snug range for the summer, expect dresses, some 1940s influence and baby doll tops.

The ‘open house’ is on 1 March 2008. Visit Quail here for more info and to shop.
