RSPCA presents Good Business Awards

Last night Waitrose, Lush, Abel & Cole and Wildlife Works were among those receiving high accolades for their ethics, at the RSPCA Good Business Awards ceremony.

David Bowles, RSPCA head of external affairs, said: ‘It is truly gratifying to see the steps all of them are taking to ensure higher animal welfare practice from farm gate to plate, from creation to application, and from design to clothes rail.’

Waitrose followed up its win with the announcement that it will be putting free range eggs in lots of baskets. Waitrose has refused to sell fresh eggs laid by caged hens since 2001, and less than five per cent of the egg in its own-brand products remains to be converted to free range - the retailer has committed to achieving this by the end of next year.

A list of all the winners can be seen here.
