Size up the new Eco-Pod

In a farmer’s field in Stretford is a dome-shaped pod that could be the eco-home of the future.

It’s been compared to Spongebob Squarepants' pineapple and the rocket that Wallace and Gromit used to get to the moon. Its four metre diameter makes for the cartoon comparisons. Despite its size it has everything you need for a green life.

It's got solar panels, a wind turbine, underfloor heating, water recycling and an odourless loo. Kitchen, bathroom and dining are downstairs and as you lie in bed upstairs you can watch the stars through a Perspex roof.

Tiles are from recycled tyres and the Eco-Pod - which costs £45,000 - can be delivered on a lorry.

Designer Aidan Quinn, spent 18 months working on the Pod, from the initial concept to making each section and fitting individually, said: ‘I wanted to find a better way to live.’
