Sky In Bid To Reduce School Food Waste
Sky and its environment partner, Global Action Plan, today launched Appetite for Action; a new initiative designed to help primary schools reduce food waste.
Over the next two years they hope to engage 5,100 primary schools - over one million pupils - to help them cut the amount of food chucked away every year: a staggering 46% of total waste produced by schools is through food. This equals 20.7kg of food waste per child - the equivalent of each kid filling one wheelie bin full of food related waste over the school year!
Primary schools can sign up at www.appetiteforaction.org.uk, and will receive a unique password to access their own school profile page. They will also receive an A2 poster that can be personalised for each school and used to track their progress, perfect for preparation of the first participation activity of the initiative; Appetite for Action day on 23rd January.
Participating schools will be in with a chance to be visited by the Sky News production team for the day. This will give kids a unique opportunity to try their hand at being a presenter for the day, read the weather and even go behind the camera.
If you think your primary school can make a difference, encourage a member of the teaching staff to sign up today at www.appetiteforaction.org.uk.
