Make a Re:solution at London’s first deep green club night

On April 1st, Spitalfields market will play host to an exceptional clean, green club night. Promoters Re:Solution's will turn the market's Kinetica Museum into a veritable eden, a sustainable, party Pleasure Garden extolling the virtues of green living.

Set amidst a glade of grass and trees the sustainable club will feature music from Ty, the Bash Creations, Mashup Twins, Nom de Plume, Charlie Winston and Hybr33d. Catwalk couture will be provided by the Ethical Fashion Forum with a living backdrop from Growing Life. Art installations, exhibitions and cutting edge sustainable technologies have been designed to be environmentally sympathetic and give a feel for what a sustainable lifestyle might look like in the future and muscial enthusiasms have become more intimate – with large scale acts cancelled in favour of singer songwriters and DJs to keep power demands down.

One of the promoters, Jon Bootland, explains that the event is 'all about having a party that's fun and inviting yet has sustainability running right through it.' Where possible lengths have been gone to to use green technology and make invisible, environmental decisions but there will also be a more visible element – with a SWAT team of carbon-friendly paramedics dispensing carbon health checks and eco advice on everything from local food and energy to waste and water. All of the food and wine at the event will be organic and/or Fairtrade.

Clubbing has never been all that sustainable, explains Bootland. It's not just those reserves of youthful vigour that drain away, it's the high energy demands of strobe lighting, PA systems and carbon-emitting technology. And it is this that the promoters seek to address - putting back, what clubbing takes out. In the spirit of leave no trace re:solution will undertake a thorough carbon audit of the day's activities and commit to improvements that will permanently reduce output either at Kinetica or an associated venue for whatever CO2 has been  consumed.

'This is a hands-on and direct and extremely relevant way of reducing climate change impacts,' says Bootland, who also investigated helping the venue change to a green energy provider and the feasibility of bio-fuel generators for the event. 'It's not just a tokenistic add-on' he says. Sustainability is the night's rock-steady baseline.
