Helps Kids In Africa By Drinking Coffee

Percol, the multi-award winning Fairtrade and Organic coffee, is launching a new range of hot drinks where every pack raises money for children in Africa. Percol has created a new initiative, ‘Children in Africa’ which will raise capital through a delicious range of hot drinks sold in UK supermarkets to build schools in remote and poor areas of Africa.

The first project is a school in Buh, Cameroon which requires £10,000 - Percol has already raised one third of the money needed and building is scheduled to start in Autumn 2008.

The current school in Buh is overcrowded, in a state of disrepair and not fit for purpose. Parents keep their children away from the school because the building is very dangerous, especially in the rainy season. Percol is working with a local partner - Schools for Africa - to oversee the project and ensure smooth running on the ground. You can follow the project here.

Funds will be raised from sales of packs of four new delicious products where all ingredients are sourced from Fairtrade certified producers. The new Percol Fairtrade African range includes these four hot drinks:

Fairtrade & Organic African Roast & Ground Coffee
Fairtrade African Instant Coffee
Fairtrade African Tea
Fairtrade African Instant Hot Chocolate

Percol Founder, Brian Chapman, says; “We have been producing the highest quality Fairtrade coffees for nearly twenty years. I have always dreamed about creating a range from Africa and at the same time, help some of the more disadvantaged there. We’ve created an extremely exciting initiative - we have married the best ingredients we could find with a genuine project which is going to impact people’s daily lives and which, at the same, time offers a first for customers in the UK – one range, of four drinks, all sourced from Africa, with each pack sold benefiting the project.”

Percol has won a total of 27 awards, more than any other coffee. Percol won five golds at the 2007 Great Taste Awards for its Fairtrade Honduras, Decaffeinated Fairtrade Colombia, Fairtrade Organic Latin America, Fairtrade Organic Espresso and Rainforest Organic Colombia, having already won 2 golds at both the 2006 and 2005 awards.
