Virtual Farmers Market goes live in time for Christmas
A UK wide virtual farmers market has been launched this week, making shopping locally for the festive season easy.
Localfoodshop brings together some of the UK’s best independent produce, from pork sausages to brewed beer, from cakes to the traditional Christmas turkey.
If you type in your postcode it will bring up local producers near you, telling you exactly how close they are, so you can keep a check of food miles.
You can also search by product, for example ‘turkey’, to locate your nearest Christmas bird.
As a social enterprise, the profits are put back into the food and farming sector, so you really are supporting local producers, 200 of which have already signed up, like Panorama Pedigree Welsh Pigs (pictured).
‘Localfoodshop offers the same quality and knowledge of food origin as a market, but via an online service, with access to a wider range of UK based products,’ said Simon Michaels, Localfoodshop’s director and co-founder.
