Old Chapel Forge, Bed and Breakfast, Lagness
If for you getting away is about relaxing, Old Chapel Forge is a perfect place to treat yourself. Both the lodges and the hosts are full of character, and well worth a visit as a break in its own right.
Lagness is in between Chichester and Bognor, and a country walk into either, or down to West Wittering’s proud coastline. It’s a good all year round stay; take it easy in the garden and stroll down to the beach in the warmer months, or cosy up in the winter before rambling down to country pubs.
The hosts are friendly but in no way intrusive, if you arrive by train they’ll happily pick you up from the station, and you can tell they enjoy what they do. Your suite has its own entrance so you can truly feel like it’s yours for the night, or longer, and breakfast in the main house is a lively occasion over a locally sourced hearty breakfast.
It’s a great place to take kids, who will be amused by the antics of the pet geese, and there’s sheep in the next field which you can get a good view of jumping on the trampoline. It also makes an ideal secluded romantic break, you can lock yourself away in the high beamed lodges and have breakfast delivered to the room.
Old Chapel Forge fully deserves its Gold Award in Green Tourism, and fully deserves its five stars here too.
Cost: £60-105 depending on time of year and type of suite
